British semiconductor giant Arm has partnered with Redmont giant Microsoft to create Azure-based tools to enable developers transfer data from Arm-based Internet of Things (IoT) devices to Azure Cloud.

The partnership will enable developers to easily target a broad range of Arm-based devices like intelligent computer-vision-enabled cameras, connected vehicles, AI gateways and intelligent appliances.

But transferring data from sensors in a piece of equipment to the cloud for analysis, then returning the findings to the machine to signal a need for maintenance, for example -- will not be smooth.

The new effort between Arm and Microsoft seeks to produce a common set of tools for the entire process from end to end.

Dipti Vachani, Senior Vice President of Automotive and IoT group at Arm said, "We have taken care of the things that matter. That streamlined artificial intelligence experience is what is going to allow this to scale.”

Microsoft, in a blog post said" "We are committed to helping foster innovation and diversity within the broader silicon and device ecosystems, and making it easy, fast, and cost-effective for our customers. Our collaboration with Arm to facilitate an end-to-end AI toolchain to simplify development is an important part of this strategy".
