Mountain View headquartered Internet search giant Google, said that it plans to launch a (Virtual Private Network) VPN service for consumers, and would be available with subscription plans for its Google One cloud storage services.

Virtual Private Network extends a private network across a public network and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network.

Google said that the VPN service will roll out in the U.S. in the coming weeks through the Google One application for Android users. It also plans to expand this facility to more countries and to iOS, Windows and Mac operating systems in the coming months.

Google had launched Google One - the cloud storage service, back in 2018. Google one offers expanded cloud storage and is intended for the consumer market. Every Google account starts with 15 gigabytes of free storage that is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. Google One's paid plans offer cloud storage starting at 100 gigabytes, up to a maximum of 30 terabytes.
